I’m starting to realize that confessing your love is more selfish than effective.
We see someone. We like someone.
Then give them our feelings to deal with.
And then what? What are they to do with it? What do you expect?

Imagine waking up, fresh and well experienced in your young age.
Then, upon stepping outside to in-take a breath of fresh air, you find a baby.
In waiting. In a basket. On your doorstep. What then?
Foster care? Cops? I guess I’m a parent now? Hit up grandma or mom?

It’s not so simple.

Finding Home

Very often, home is within these walls
A place of captivity
A prison. Even when you’re free.
But I’ve made homes outside the world
Some, I carry no word nor trace to relive the place
Some, I’ve started tsunamis, raging in lullabies that’ll echo my name
Till the end of earth.
I made a home when it was taken from me—
A place to be-long
Safe, open and delicious.
Right here. Inside of me.

@Sircharlesthepoet

Send your blessings, payers, good wishes or anything uplifting to the people who are quarantined with somebody who they don’t really get along with. Some of these people are kids stuck at home with poisonous parents because they don’t have the escape of school. Some of them are couples having to stay at home with an abusive partner. Others are people who constantly have to face anxiety, worry or discomfort due to who they’re stuck with or due to some things that they’ve experienced in the past.
.
The ability to be by yourself is important, but not everyone can afford that. Being able to disconnect from a fast paced life is great but, for some others, that means being stuck with their demons–and that’s never an easy fight.
.
On another topic, I wanted to address this “home” idea. I moved around a few times, as a kid–both from house to house and from family to family–so this idea of “home” has always been interesting to me. “Home is where you belong” but I don’t belong anywhere, so what do I do? Do I have no home? Is this concept of “home” only for those who are privileged enough?
.
I’ve realized that “home” doesn’t have to be a physical place at a specific address. Home can be being around some people. Home can be multiple places around the world where you’ve found acceptance. Home can be wherever you’ve left a piece of yourself, and it was loved. Home can be you. Home can be within your own headspace. That way, wherever you are, you feel at home :).

You speak shame of my shoes
Criticize its components and origins
Yet
You have not walked an inch in em’

Have you worn my skin?
Have you beat under the sun in them?
You shun upon my life for
The struggles you’ve cursed me in
Yet you wear my golds and diamonds,
Treasures
With pride. Mimicking my lustrous hide

Have you what it takes to tie my laces?
Tap along with my dances.
Have you trumpets blasting
The fascinations of a great culture
In your voice?

Do you carry rainbows at your fingertips
To bless each person you meet
With sunshine that never sleeps
From the Motherland?

By which right in this world
Do you take a whiff of my goods
Then claim it as yours?
What fuels your hate?
Are you embarrassed by how I zig
When you expect me to zag?

You think you’re so big
But right along greatness I will tag

Until your tics
Stop forging my tocs
And block my timeless shine,
I will rise with pride!
On currents,
On tempests,
With halos crowning my pupils
And fire to fill my relentlessness.

So no, Kendrick Lamar, I am not gonna be alright!
These chameleons wear my skin,
My hair, my vibes…my culture.
Then get praises

While I,
I get oppressed for wearing my skin,
My hair, my energy, my culture
And commuting with elegance
In my shoes.

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all well and safe. I wanted to let you all know about a video that I’ve just uploaded on my YouTube Channel. In that video (above), I am performing one of my poems titled, “Shoes”. This poem is a poem that I wrote about cultural appropriation.

I was browsing the internet, and I came across a video where they showed a series of white people bashing black people who chose to keep their hair in dreadlocks. They were saying that it is ugly, dirty, etc. After proceeding to keep scrolling down my feed, I came across another video. That video showed white female models walking down a runway with their hair in dreadlocks as the audience praised their look. The video also showed the audience members giving high compliments to the models for their hair, when they were interviewed after the show.

After seeing these two videos back-to-back, I was furious. I was enraged at the fact that when black do what we want, we get criticized. Yet, when white people copy the same thing, it’s “beautiful” and “inventive”. I hate that. So I wrote this poem in response to it. Thank you for watching!

The Scars on our faces are what relates us,
Though different races.

A hill rises somewhere on your shining
Valley attracting everything light.
Nothing has been right but

That’s a story the slug rarely tells,
Although you’ve climbed.
Claimed victory at the peak—
Of which, we don’t often speak

The Marks on our faces are crafted,
Never draft-ed.
The artist leaving it to be, as it be
A sign of Beauty:

Scars turned around, truly.

@Sircharlesthepoet

I love beauty marks. Beauty marks remind us that a “true artist” (or someone with the right mentality) can come across something that was meant to be a scar, an unappealing mark—a mole—and see it as beauty. It takes courage and a firm, but beautiful, mindset to be able to find yourself among complete chaos, yet still be able to see the beauty in it AND keep your head space and inner peace in tact. So is it a nasty mole or a beauty mark?

Send this to someone who saw beauty in something crappy. Stay safe out there, y’all.

A World Of Hope

When there’s a world in front of me
But “nothing” is the only possibility

I try, I try. I’ve tried, I’ve tried.
Swim in a high current trickling
Away with everything:
Including my pride

And hope.
Everything needed to untie the rope
And flow…

Every morning, the sun still shines
It unrolls the sky into a blanket of hope
That covers the world—having enough for
Everybody.

When I was a child,
I used to get struck by lightning
Of amazement,
Each time I realized: the sky never really runs out

It goes as far as your dreams dare to.
And then, some more.
Especially when your back is against the wall
Especially when all hope seems to be at loss.

@Sircharlesthepoet

Hey guys 🙂

It’s been a while. As an artist, I’ve been thinking about how it’s my duty to create art to release into the world in times like this. When the world is in chaos, people turn to art. I love how everyone is coming together and contributing with what they have to help lessen the anxiety brought by the uncertainty of the world’s current situation. I send out a prayer and good energy to those who have lost this battle with Covid-19, and to those who are still fighting. I send out love, eternal blessings, and every positive energy in the world, to those working in a hospital, fighting to save lives against an outrageous enemy. And much thanks and blessings to governments around the world for trying to find balance and steady ground in these trying times.

Stay strong. Keep fighting. And let your hope be the last thing that this virus takes from you. ❤️🙏🏾💪🏾 stay home and wash your hands.
